Lee calls for all-out efforts to prevent risks of wildfires amid drought

By Kim Eun-jung

SEOUL, Feb. 10 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung on Tuesday called for all-out efforts to prevent the rising risk of wildfires, as drought warnings have been issued in many parts of South Korea.

Lee expressed concern that wildfire risks are increasing amid drought alerts covering more than half of the nation, noting that several regions in Gyeongsang Province are nearing record-long drought warning periods.

"Extraordinary measures are needed ahead of the season when wildfire risks intensify sharply," Lee wrote on social media platform X.

Lee pledged a "preemptive and proactive response" in the early stages of wildfire risk, stressing the principle that "prevention is the best solution."
