SEOUL, Jan. 9 (Yonhap) - “Alchemy of Souls Part 2,” tvN’s weekend drama which combines fantasy, historical drama, romance and live drama ended with a viewer rating of 9%.
The last episode of “Alchemy of Souls Part 2,” which aired at 9:10 p.m. the previous day, had a rating of 9.7% (non-terrestrial paid households), according to Nielsen Korea, a ratings research company on Monday.
It is the highest viewer rating of its own and exceeded the highest viewer rating (9.3%) of Part 1 of "Alchemy of Souls Part 1."
In the latest episode, Jang Wook and Jin Bu-yeon were depicted protecting Daeho from the crisis of Hwajo and officially becoming a couple.
Jang Wook deals with the fire energy of Hwajo and burns Unanimous Assembly mages and Jin-mu to death, and Jin Bu-yeon calms the Hwajo back from the sky to save the world.
"Alchemy of Souls Part 2" is set in the fictional nation of Daeho, a country that does not exist in history or on maps and presents a fresh fantasy worldview.
The drama revived the charm of fantasy dramas by adding a variety of settings, including soul-changing magic that exchange the spirits, royal agency Cheon Bu-gwan where people examine and record heavenly spirits, and Jin Yo-won, who stores mysterious objects in Daeho.
The fantasy of magic is realistically embodied with colorful CG, and fine-colored costumes also added fun.
In Part 1, the noble young master Jang Wook meets Mudeok, who had the soul of Nak-su, as a teacher and delightfully develop himself as a mage. Part 2 focuses on romance in a darker atmosphere.
Jang Wook, who came back alive from the threshold of death, erased all his mischief and exuded a dark atmosphere, and Jin Jin-yeon, who regained the memory of falling water, was distressed by what she had done in the past, adding weight to the play.
Ko Yoon-jung, who played as a new female lead in Part 2, is said to have reduced the sense of alienation felt by viewers due to the replacement of the female lead in the early stages while making good use of Jin Bu-yeon's mysterious and lively atmosphere.
However, as there was a lack of explanation on how the Nak-su, whose body burned down, was revived to its original form, some viewers said, "I'm confused about what exactly is the identity of the main female character is."
