Removal of memorial stone for forced Korean labor victims begins

Fences are set up in front of the entrance to the Gunma Prefectural Forest Park in the Japanese city of Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, on Jan. 29, 2024, where the local authorities began work to remove a memorial stone for Korean victims of Japan's wartime forced labor the previous day. The memorial stone was erected at the park in 2004 by a Japanese civic group to promote the public's understanding of the shared history from Japan's 1910-45 colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula and the friendship between the two neighbors.
