SEOUL, Sept. 5 (Yonhap) -- Following the global success of the Netflix animated film "K-pop Demon Hunters," films inspired by K-pop are set to enter production.
According to the music industry on Friday, the thriller film "Perfect Girl" will begin shooting next month.
"Perfect Girl" is a thriller depicting the competition within the K-pop world and the stories of trainees. The film will be directed by Hong Won-ki of Zanybros, a production company known for music videos, and produced by Badlands and Thunder Road Films.
Singer Jeon Somi will make her acting debut in the film. Details of her role have yet to be disclosed.
Her agency The Black Label said, "Actress and model Adeline Rudolph, and actress Arden Cho, who voiced the character 'Rumi' and served as co-producer of 'K-pop Demon Hunters,' will also appear in the film."
In July, Hybe America, the U.S. unit of South Korea's leading K-pop agency Hybe, announced it would co-produce a K-pop-themed film with Paramount Pictures, targeting a theatrical release in February 2027.
The film will tell the story of a Korean American girl who joins a TV audition program in hopes of becoming a K-pop girl group member despite her family’s opposition. Actress Yoo Ji-young, who voiced the character "Joy" in "K-pop Demon Hunters," has been cast in the lead role, while singer-actor Eric Nam will also appear.
Filming for the project will begin this month in Korea.
