SEOUL, June 20 (Yonhap) -- Lim Yun-chan’s final performance of the 16th Van Cliburn competition will be broadcasted live, said LG Uplus on June 20. Lim Yun-chan is the youngest pianist ever to win Van Cliburn international piano competition.

Live performance will be provided through LG Uplus Cultural and artistic content service Uplus Stage. Launched in June of last year, the service provides various cultural and artistic contents so the users can easily watch classical performances, musicals, operas, exhibitions and more at home.

By selecting the Uplus Stage menu on Uplus TV and Uplus mobile, TV customers of LG Uplus are provided with Lim Yun-chan's first performance of the final for free. The second part of his performance will be updated later.

Lim Yun-chan is the youngest participant among the six finalists of the 16th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Fort Worth, Texas, on June 18 (local time). Lim Yun-chan was awarded with gold medal after performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 and Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 during his 1st and 2nd rounds.

The Van Cliburn Competition honors American pianist Van Cliburn (1934-2013), who became an American hero by winning the 1st International Tchaikovsky Competition held in the Soviet Union in 1958 during the Cold War era.

Van Cliburn competition is one of the competitions representing North America amongst Chopin Competition, Tchaikovsky Competition and Queen Elizabeth Competition. Alongside Son Yeol-eum in 2013 and Sunwoo Ye-kwon in 2017, Lim Yun-chan is the third Korean pianist who has won an award at Van Cliburn Competition.

“To celebrate a Korean pianist’s achievement of winning an international piano competition, LG Uplus prepared a service where customers can watch the performance more conveniently from their houses.” adding “We will strive to provide various cultural and artistic contents through Uplus Stage and co-exist with the art industry," announced Lee Yong-sung, the head of content distribution strategy team of LG Uplus.
