SEOUL, September 1 (Yonhap) -- Korea’s main tourist attractions, four major palaces, Jongmyo shrine, and Royal Tombs of the Joseon dynasty, will open during Korea’s biggest holiday Chuseok (Sept. 9 –Sept.12)

Korea’s Cultural Heritage Administration announced on Thursday that the four major palaces, including Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Deoksugung, and Changgyeonggung, as well as Jongmyo shrine and Royal Tombs of the Joseon dynasty will be open free during the Chuseok holiday.

Jongmyo, usually operated by reservation system, can also be visited freely during this period.

Changdeokgung, Deoksugung, Changgyeonggung, the ruins of King Sejong, and the Royal Tombs of the Joseon dynasty, which are normally closed on Mondays, will be closed on the last day of the hoilday Tuesday (Sept. 13), not Sept. 12. Gyeongbokgung Palace and Jongmyo Shrine will remain closed on Tuesdays as normal.

Some programs operated by reservation system, such as 'Changdeokgung Moonlight Tour', an experiential event that tours Changdeokgung at night, and viweing of Changdeokgung Palace, will be charged.

You can make a wish while looking at the full moon at Changgyeonggung Palace during the Chuseok holiday.

The Changgyeonggung Palace Management Office will hold “Full Moon on Palace” (Literal Translation) event in which a full moon model is placed around Changgyeonggung Palace wind streamer pedestal for about two hours from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 8 to Sept.12.

Wind streamer pedestal is to measure the strength and direction of the wind. It is located on the hill behind Jibbokheon.

An official from the Changgyeonggung Palace Management Office said, "With the entire palace and a large full moon in the background, you will be able to take good pictures while enjoying the holiday atmosphere.“

The event can be enjoyed without a registration. But the event will be canceled if rain.

Jeonbuk and Jeonju National Intangible Heritage Center will host folk games and experience events on Sept.10, the day of Chuseok.

You can enjoy a variety of folk games such as ring throwing, jegi kicking, hoop rolling, stone hitting, stick throwing, and cup and ball from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Making fans with traditional patterns and learning pansori are also possible.
