Busan City Government to promote expansion of UN Memorial Park to register as UNESCO World Heritage Site

Seoul November 08 (Yonhap) -- Busan City government addressed their plan to promote the expansion of the current infrastructure of the UN Memorial Park in Nam-gu of Busan which is the world’s only U.N. military cemetery in order to register it as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.


The city government plans to build information center at the UN Memorial Park, Peace Forest, Memorial garden for nations who participated in the Korean War, and create a yard of harmony at the UN peace park.

Moreover, the Busan City Government will make improvements on pathway to increase the accessibility of visitors.

Also the city government will create a location for peace sharing, learning center, and more within the Busan Culture Hall and a cultural center within Busan Museum leading into a melting pot of culture.

Over 2300 soldiers who participated in the Korean war from 11 different nations are at rest at the UN Memorial Park.
