SEOUL, April 16 (Yonhap) -- Veteran actor Lee Soon-jae was unable to attend the 37th Korean PD Awards ceremony due to health reasons, the Korean Producers and Directors Association said Wednesday.

Lee, 91, was named the winner in the performer (actor) category at the ceremony held on April 9 at the KBS Annex in Yeouido, Seoul. However, he did not appear in person to receive the award.

The head of Lee’s management agency accepted the award on his behalf and conveyed the actor’s gratitude, stating, “Mr. Lee was unable to attend as he is currently in poor health.”

The ceremony, which was pre-recorded, was broadcast on KBS 1TV on April 15.

Lee, one of the country’s most respected and active actors, is currently the oldest working actor in South Korea. While he has continued to appear in both television dramas and stage plays, he canceled all theater performances last October due to health concerns.

His most recent public appearance was at the 2023 KBS Drama Awards on December 31, where he received the grand prize and delivered an acceptance speech.
