SEOUL, July 22 (Yonhap) -- The highest-grossing Korean film of 2024, "Yadang," will return to theaters in an extended version titled "Yadang: Extended Cut" on August 6, distributor Plus M Entertainment announced Tuesday.

"Yadang" follows the tangled relationships between Kang Soo (played by Kang Ha-neul), a broker who profits by handing over drug crime intel to authorities, prosecutor Koo Gwan-hee (Yoo Hae-jin), and detective Oh Sang-jae (Park Hae-joon). The film is directed by Hwang Byung-guk, known for the 2011 film "Special Investigation Unit."

Since its April release, "Yadang" has drawn approximately 3.37 million viewers, making it the most-watched Korean film of the year. Among all 2024 releases, it trails only Tom Cruise’s "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning," which drew about 3.38 million viewers.

The extended version adds 15 minutes to the original runtime, beginning with an opening sequence from prosecutor Koo’s perspective and expanding the narrative arcs of key characters.

Director Hwang explained, “By shifting the narrator from Kang Soo to Prosecutor Koo, I aimed to further emphasize the themes of power, desire, and downfall.”
