Hwacheon 'Ice Festival' featuring night 'Lantern Festival' to kick off on Jan 7

SEOUL January 4 (yonhap) -- The “Ice Festival” of Hwacheon County which is considered to be one of the representative winter festivals of South Korea will showcase various festive activities at night throughout the general surrounding areas of the festival.

Hwacheon County Government addressed that Starting on January 7, until 29, every Friday and Saturday starting at 6 p.m. until 9p.m. County will block off a streets near where the Trout lanterns are posted to host a night festival.

Festival will be held under the theme of “Answer! Again, Lantern Lit Street.”

Street of Lanterns are formed around the festival sight to host and attract visitors to stay the night and participate in night festival.

Every Saturday, segment “Again Lantern Lit Street Dancing Festa” will take place.

Throughout the dancing Festa, those who participate in the event in School Uniforms, Overfit, Flared Pants, and more of unique styled dress code will be awarded with extra points.

Moreover, famous South Korean rappers will take the stage.

On top of concerts, Ice Festival will feature various events for everyone to participate.

Booths where visitors will be given the chance to try out park golf, tarot cards, face painting, food truck, photo zone, roulette events and more will be provided.

Continuing on, the festival will feature shows by nearby stationed Military’s band, zumba dance shows by the locals, K-pop cover dance segments and more.

“We are planning to host a amazing night festival where not only locals but also visitors from all over the place can enjoy,” adding “We are putting safety of our visitors as our biggest priority when preparing for the festival.” Choi Moon-soon, Mayor of Hwacheon County addressed on Wednesday.
