SEOUL, Oct. 13 (Yonhap) -- The Japanese animated film “Chainsaw Man – Reze Arc” ranked No. 1 at the domestic box office over the weekend, data showed.
According to the Korean Film Council, the film attracted about 324,000 viewers between Friday and Sunday, claiming 27.6 percent of total sales. Its cumulative audience now stands at 1.83 million.
Comic action film “Boss,” which had held the top spot since its release on Oct. 3 for the Chuseok holiday, fell to second place with about 307,000 viewers (23.8 percent share), pushing its total audience past the 2 million mark at 2.03 million.
Director Park Chan-wook’s “No Other Choice” ranked third with 186,000 weekend viewers (14.6 percent), bringing its total to 2.63 million.
“One Battle After Another,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn, ranked fourth with 83,000 admissions (6.8 percent), followed by the Japanese animated film “Demon Slayer: The Infinity Castle” with 71,000 viewers (5.7 percent).
As of 9 a.m. Sunday, “Chainsaw Man – Reze Arc” also led in advance ticket sales with 40,000 reservations, representing 28.4 percent of the total.
Second in pre-sales was “Jujutsu Kaisen: The Cursed Womb,” opening Oct. 16, with 15,000 tickets sold (10.6 percent).
Following the success of “Demon Slayer: The Infinity Castle,” which drew over 5 million viewers earlier this year, theatrical releases based on popular manga and anime series continue to perform strongly in Korea.
