SEOUL,
Nov. 10 (Yonhap) --
According to the Korean Film Council’s box office database, the movie drew about 160,000 moviegoers from Nov. 7–9, capturing a 25.4 percent revenue share and ranking No. 1 at the weekend box office.
Released on Nov. 5, the film is the latest installment in the franchise that began with the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger classic “Predator.” The new sequel tells the story from the Predator’s perspective, focusing on the coming-of-age journey of Predator Deck (played by Demetrious Schuster-Koloamatangi), a member of the alien species long portrayed as humanity’s adversary.
The film has also become a box office hit overseas, reportedly achieving the highest-grossing record in the Predator series in North America.
Actor Kang Ha-neul’s comedy “First Ride” ranked second over the same period with around 120,000 admissions, while the Japanese animated feature “Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc” took third place with 113,000 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to 2.98 million — poised to surpass the 3 million mark soon.
Director Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Bugonia,” starring Emma Stone, opened in fifth place with about 21,000 admissions. The film, released on Nov. 5, is a Hollywood remake of Jang Joon-hwan’s 2003 Korean sci-fi film “Save the Green Planet!”
In the presale rankings, “Wicked: For Good,” the sequel to “Wicked,” led the chart with a 29.7 percent reservation rate and about 55,000 advance tickets sold as of 9:30 a.m. Monday. The musical fantasy, based on the stage production of the same name, follows Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) as their paths diverge. The film opens Nov. 19 in Korea.
The magician-heist sequel “Now You See Me 3” followed with a 22.5 percent reservation rate and about 41,000 advance ticket sales. It is slated for release on Nov. 12.
