SEOUL,
Nov. 27 (Yonhap) --
According to the Korean Film Council’s box office tracking system, "Zootopia 2" attracted about 309,000 viewers on Tuesday, accounting for 72.0 percent of total ticket sales, to rank first at the box office.
The figure is about nine times higher than the opening-day audience of its predecessor, "Zootopia" (2016), which drew about 35,000 viewers on its first day. It is also the second-highest opening for a Disney animated film in Korea, following "Frozen 2" (2019), which attracted about 606,000 moviegoers on its debut.
"Zootopia 2," released nine years after the original, follows the story of fox Nick Wilde, now a police officer, and rabbit officer Judy Hopps.
The film earned a CGV Egg score of 98 percent, based on audience ratings, signaling strong word-of-mouth. Viewers have praised the colorful and cute animal characters, the relationship between Judy and Nick, and the film’s message, though some have noted it falls short of the original.
"Zootopia 2" is also leading in advance ticket sales. As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, its reservation rate stood at 64.3 percent, with about 345,000 moviegoers having booked tickets in advance.
