SEOUL, April 21 (Yonhap) -- Cosmax said Tuesday it has developed a toner pad that biodegrades in two stages, taking into account both usage and disposal.

The new product, "Flush-it Melting Pad," uses VEOCEL Lyocell fiber, a high-strength plant-based material in short fiber form.

The material maintains durability during use but undergoes primary decomposition through friction with water after disposal, followed by secondary biodegradation by microorganisms.

The company added that 99 percent of the essence ingredients used in the pad are derived from natural sources, enhancing its eco-friendly formulation.

Cosmax noted that the product was recognized for both its technology and sustainability after reaching the finals in the sustainability category at the Cosmopack Awards held during Cosmoprof Bologna 2026 in Bologna, Italy, last month.

A company official said the product reflects efforts to improve sustainability not only in performance but also in the disposal process, adding that Cosmax will continue to introduce innovative products to strengthen the global competitiveness of K-beauty in the clean beauty market.
