SEOUL, Aug. 5 (Yonhap) -- Following the passing of actor Song Young-kyu on Tuesday, fellow actors have expressed deep sorrow and remembrance of a colleague who left a lasting impression both on and off screen.
Actor Ryu Seung-soo paid tribute on his social media account by posting a photo taken with the late actor. “You worked hard all this time, hyung. Now rest in peace,” he wrote. Recalling their collaboration on the 2012 SBS drama "The Chaser," he added, “I remember thinking, ‘How can someone act so convincingly as a villain?’ We used to act like we were in a competition whenever we met on set. Our chemistry was really something.”
Veteran actor Lee Jae-yong also shared a heartfelt message accompanied by a photo of him praying. “For an actor to give trust to a co-performer means he has gone through a long and difficult journey to reach that level,” he wrote. “He was a good actor who gave such trust. I cherished him deeply because I saw a bright future ahead of him.”
Lee continued, “As a father and head of a household, I can only imagine the burdens he carried. I pray for peace for him and for everyone who cared about him.”
Actor Jung Tae-woo expressed his grief by posting a memorial photo from the funeral and remembering Song as someone who often expressed love openly. “Dear Young-kyu hyung, you always said 'I love you' so freely,” he wrote.
Lee Jong-hyuk, a fellow alumnus from Seoul Institute of the Arts, shared a photo of the memorial portrait and wrote, “It’s devastating. Was the world really that unbearable?”
Song Young-kyu, remembered for his strong presence in both television and film, leaves behind a legacy of committed performance and camaraderie that touched many in the entertainment industry.
