Crying Nut's Han Kyung-rok to Host 'Kyung-rok Festival' Next Month in Hongdae

SEOUL, Jan. 14 (Yonhap) -- Han Kyung-rok, bassist of the rock band Crying Nut, will host the music festival "2025 Kyung-rok Festival: Come Together" next month, his agency announced on Tuesday.

The festival, known as Kyung-rok-jeol, will be held from February 4 to 7. 

 

The event, which originated as a casual birthday gathering for Han, have been a feast for musicians who performs impromptu sets. Over the years, it has evolved into a hallmark event of Hongdae's indie music scene, earning the nickname "Hongdae Holiday."

 

This year’s theme, Come Together, celebrates Crying Nut’s 30th debut anniversary and 30 years of Korean indie music. The theme embodies a call for unity among indie music lovers and art enthusiasts to raise their voices together.

On February 4 and 5, online performances will take place. Over 50 indie bands will perform live-streamed sets under the banner of "2025 Kyung-rok Festival Online."

 

On February 6, a special "Kyung-rok Festival x Garage 2nd Anniversary Concert" will take place at Musinsa Garage in Seogyo-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. Around five acts will perform, celebrating the values and heritage of indie culture.

 

On February 7, the festival will close with 2025 Kyung-rok Festival Classic, held at Musinsa Garage and broadcast live online. Approximately 10 teams will take the stage.

 

Additionally, a project team led by Han Kyung-rok and featuring drummer Kim Seul-ong (Toxic), guitarist Hwang Rin (Cardi), and pianist Jung Dong-hwan (Melomance) will perform during the festival.

 

A special awards ceremony will be held for teams that perform during Kyung-rok Festival Online. Winners will earn opportunities to play at renowned venues such as Zebi Dabang and Rolling Hall in Hongdae.
