SEOUL, June 24 (Yonhap) -- tvN's first-love romance drama "Head over Heels," featuring Jo Yi-hyun and Choo Young-woo's youthful chemistry, debuted with a 4 percent viewership rating.
According to ratings research firm Nielsen Korea on Tuesday, the first episode of tvN’s new Monday-Tuesday drama "Head over Heels," which aired at 8:50 p.m. the previous day, recorded a 4.3 percent rating.
The premiere depicted the beginning of high school shaman Park Seong-ah's (played by Jo Yi-hyun) difficult first love. Living a double life as a normal student by day and a secretive shaman by night, Seong-ah encounters Bae Chan-u (played by Choo Young-woo), a boy her age who perfectly fits her ideal type—at her shrine. However, she senses that he is fated to die soon.
Feeling sorry for Chan-u, who was born under a cursed fate, she learns he has transferred to her school. Determined to protect him and preserve her first love, Seong-ah resolves to use her shamanic powers to ward off the bad luck.
She stays by his side, protecting him in dangerous situations and even securing a talisman from a famously effective “flower boy” shaman. Still, Chan-u remains distant, pushing her away with cold words and a stoic demeanor. Undeterred, Seong-ah does her best to guard him.
"Head over Heels" unfolded the fresh romance between two high schoolers with opposite personalities from the very first episode. Viewers commented that the proactive female lead, who falls in love at first sight and gives her all for love, felt refreshing.
The chemistry between the two lead actors also stood out. Jo Yi-hyun effectively portrayed Seong-ah’s bubbly charm, while Choo Young-woo convincingly delivered Chan-u’s emotional complexity, shaped by past wounds.
