BUSAN, July 31 (Yonhap) -- A total of 31 intellectual property (IP) titles from Korea and other parts of Asia have been selected to participate in the upcoming Busan Story Market, which takes place during the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF).
The event serves as a trading platform for original stories that can be adapted into film and other visual content.
According to the BIFF Secretariat on Thursday, the Korean selection includes 11 books, 4 webtoons, 2 web novels, and 2 original stories. From Taiwan, 3 books, 2 web novels, and 1 comic have been chosen, while the Japanese selection comprises 3 books, 2 comics, and, for the first time, 1 TV drama.
This year’s domestic IP call drew submissions from 97 companies, totaling 184 entries. A diverse range of genres—including romance, human drama, fantasy, period pieces, and animation—was represented, reflecting fresh creative approaches.
The Taiwan Creative Content Agency, a partner since 2020, continues to introduce IPs noted for their genre experimentation and multidimensional emotional narratives, extending beyond conventional romance and drama.
For the first time, a Japanese TV drama IP has been selected, drawing attention from industry insiders for its potential in remakes and One Source Multi Use (OSMU) expansion.
The Busan Story Market showcases outstanding original IPs from Korea and across Asia. During the festival, business presentations will be held for film and visual content professionals, with selected IPs made available for potential sales and adaptation deals.
Additionally, IP-holding companies will operate booths on-site, facilitating direct business-to-business (B2B) interactions.
This year’s Busan Story Market will take place from September 20 to 23 at Exhibition Hall 2 of BEXCO in Busan.
