SEOUL, June 26 (Yonhap) -- JTBC is launching a new Friday drama lineup with the premiere of "The Nice Guy," an emotional noir series starring Lee Dong-wook and Lee Sung-kyoung, the broadcaster announced on Thursday.

The new drama will air every Friday at 8:50 p.m. starting July 18, with two back-to-back episodes each week.

While JTBC has previously aired dramas on both Fridays and Saturdays, this marks the first time it is introducing a dedicated Friday-only slot under the banner “Friday Series.”

JTBC also plans to continue the Friday drama initiative by scheduling new series in the same time slot following the conclusion of "The Nice Guy."

"The Nice Guy" tells the story of Park Seok-cheol (played by Lee Dong-wook), a former gangster who once dreamed of becoming a novelist, and his passionate romance with his first love, Kang Mi-young (played by Lee Sung-kyoung).

The series is helmed by renowned directors Song Hae-sung, known for the films "Failan" and "Maundy Thursday," and Park Hong-soo, who directed the drama "Lost." The script is co-written by veteran screenwriter Kim Woon-kyung of "There Is a Bluebird" and "The Moon of Seoul," and Kim Hyo-seok, who penned the film "Opposition Party."

The drama also features a strong supporting cast including Park Hoon, Oh Na-ra, Ryu Hye-young, and Chun Ho-jin.
