SEOUL, Sept. 8 (Yonhap) -- Actor Park Jung-min will return to the stage for the first time in eight years, starring in the upcoming production of "Life of Pi" set to open in December, production company S&CO said Monday.
Park has been cast in the role of Pi, a boy stranded in the Pacific Ocean after a cargo ship accident who struggles to survive on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker.
Based on Canadian author Yann Martel’s Booker Prize-winning novel "Life of Pi," the play premiered in London’s West End in 2021 and was also adapted into a 2012 film directed by Ang Lee.
This marks Park’s first stage performance since appearing in the play "Romeo and Juliet" from 2016 to 2017.
Musical actor Park Kang-hyun, known for leading roles in productions such as "Aladdin" and "Hadestown," will also play Pi.
The role of Pi’s father will be performed by Seo Hyun-chul and Hwang Man-ik. Other cast members include Joo Ah, Song In-sung, Jin Sang-hyun, Jung Ho-joon, Lim Min-young and Kim Ji-hye.
"Life of Pi" will run from Dec. 2 to March 2, 2026, at GS Art Center in Seoul.
