SEOUL, July 10 (Yonhap) -- Actor Byeon Woo-seok will star in a Netflix series adaptation of the popular web novel “Solo Leveling.”
Netflix announced Thursday that the upcoming series, based on the widely acclaimed intellectual property (IP) “Solo Leveling,” will feature Byeon in the lead role.
The story follows Sung Jin-woo, an E-rank hunter who starts off as the weakest but levels up to become the world's most powerful hunter. Set in a world where mysterious gates connect reality with other dimensions, monsters must be eliminated to prevent chaos from spreading.
Byeon plays Jin-woo, who awakens to new powers after a near-death experience and rises as humanity’s final hope.
Originally serialized on KakaoPage, “Solo Leveling” has amassed a combined 14.3 billion views as a web novel and webtoon. With dungeons and monsters brought to life in live-action format, the series is expected to deliver dynamic visuals.
Directors Lee Hae-jun of “Castaway on the Moon” and Kim Byung-seo of “Ashfall” will helm the project, which is being produced by Kakao Entertainment and SANAI Pictures.
