SEOUL, Jan. 3 (Yonhap) -- In line with K-pop boom, a new music chart, which calculates popularity of songs based on various platforms such as karaoke, radio broadcasting, and performances, will be created.

The Korea Music Copyright Association (hereinafter KMCA), the biggest South Korean non-profit copyright collective, announced on Tuesday that they are working on establishing independent music charts by the end of this month.

With K-pop gaining popularity from all over the world, various charts are currently provided to fans.

However, some pointed out that there are limits as to shed light the whole as the current leading charts rank the songs based on the self database from each platforms like music, album, and YouTube.

KMCA said, "Being the largest music trust management organization, we collect and distribute music copyright profits, meaning we receive accurate details of music usage, and we also have various data ourselves," adding, "Based on the data of music copyright distribution, we are able to invent highly accurate and trustworthy music charts."

Profits from music copyrights occur from not only the sales of music and album, but also from karaoke, radio program, and concerts; so KMCA possesses a wide range of related data.

KMCA plans to make main-chart-like "Comprehensive chart" where songs will be ranked by totaling each song's copyright fees from all types of platforms occurred previous month.

Five types of detailed charts including Streaming·Download chart, Radio chart, Album chart, Karaoke chart, and Concert chart will also be created.

Nine other themed charts that copyright holders and public will find interesting, such as local karaoke chart, Commercial music chart, Election logo song, cumulative copyright fee chart, and themed chart, are also being planned.

KMCA added, "We will fairly calculate the numbers with the data we have to create unique charts that are different from other charts."
