SEOUL, July 25 (Yonhap) -- The fantasy action film "Omniscient Reader: The Prophet" (hereafter "Omniscient Reader") is set to dominate the weekend box office, topping both daily admissions and advance ticket sales during its opening week.
According to data from the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network on Friday, director Kim Byung-woo’s "Omniscient Reader" drew over 73,000 moviegoers the previous day, accounting for 25.5 percent of total ticket sales. It remained at No. 1 on the box office chart following its official release on Thursday.
Marvel Studios' new release "Fantastic Four: A New Beginning" came in second with approximately 72,000 viewers (27.7 percent), while "F1: The Movie," a racing film starring Brad Pitt, ranked third with 34,000 admissions (12.9 percent).
"Omniscient Reader" is based on the popular web novel and webtoon of the same name. The story unfolds as a fictional world from a novel becomes reality. The cast includes Ahn Hyo-seop, Lee Min-ho, Chae Soo-bin, Shin Seung-ho, Nana, and BLACKPINK’s Jisoo.
The film also led in advance bookings. As of 9 a.m. Thursday, "Omniscient Reader" held an 18.2 percent reservation rate with more than 82,000 tickets booked.
The comedy film "My Daughter Is a Zombie," starring Jo Jung-suk and set to premiere on July 30, followed closely with a 17.3 percent reservation rate. "Fantastic Four: A New Beginning" came in third at 12.3 percent.
