SEOUL, Jan. 10 (Yonhap) - Daegwangmyeongjeon Hall of Bongguksa Temple in Taepyeong-dong has been chosen as a State-designated Treasure, Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province, announced on Monday.
Bongguksa Temple was first built in 1028 during Goryeo Dynasty and was reconstructed after hundreds of years later under the lead of the royal family to pray for the repose when two princesses, Myeonghye and Myeongseon, daughters of King Hyeonjong of the Joseon Dynasty, died one after another.
Daegwangmyeongjeon Hall is known as a Buddhist temple built with the reconstruction of Bongguksa Temple in 1674. The analysis of tree-ring dating of wood elements also confirmed that the main materials that make up the framework of the structure were from the late 17th century, indicating the architectural history.
"We will work with the Cultural Heritage Administration to preserve and manage the Daegwangmyeongjeon more systematically,” city official said.
