SEOUL, June 30 (Yonhap) -- MBC’s weekend Kdrama sereis "The Auditors" wrapped up its run with a nationwide viewership rating of 4.2 percent, according to data released Monday by Nielsen Korea.
The series, which aired its 10th and final episode on June 8, tells the story of a labor attorney who unexpectedly gains the ability to see the spirits of workers who died unjustly on the job—and finds himself reluctantly pulled into solving their industrial accident cases.
Premiering on May 30 with a 4.1 percent rating, the show initially dipped to 2.8 percent by episode 4 but rebounded to a season-high 5.6 percent by episode 7, maintaining solid ratings through its finale.
In the final episode, protagonist Noh Mu-jin (played by Jung Kyung-ho) helps the spirits of eight workers who died in a warehouse fire find peace, while spurring meaningful change in the labor sector. Construction firm CEO Kim Myung-an (Choi Moo-sung), after realizing he might die in one of his own shoddily built structures, pledges to help uncover the truth behind industrial accident cover-ups. Meanwhile, lawmaker Moon Jung-eun (Moon So-ri) proposes an amendment to the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.
The drama ends on a hopeful note, with Noh Mu-jin and his colleagues—Na Hee-joo (Seol In-ah) and Go Kyun-woo (Cha Hak-yeon)—setting out to establish their own labor law firm.
Directed by acclaimed film director Lim Soon-rye in her first foray into television, The Auditors drew attention for its in-depth focus on workplace safety and labor rights issues. Through episodic cases, the show spotlighted a range of vulnerable workers: a high school intern fatally crushed by machinery, a rookie nurse driven to suicide by workplace bullying, a janitor pushed to the brink by layoffs, and a young man who collapsed while pushing shopping carts at a retail store.
The series was praised for its warm yet sharp portrayal of Noh Mu-jin’s reluctant journey from a self-serving attorney to an unlikely advocate for workers’ rights. Rather than presenting him as a heroic figure from the start, the drama depicted his transformation with humor, heart, and humanity.
