SEOUL, March 10 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung will hold summit talks with Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in trade, maritime security, the defense industry and other areas, Cheong Wa Dae said Tuesday.

Mahama arrived in South Korea on Tuesday for a five-day working visit, becoming the first African leader to visit the country since Lee took office in June 2025. It marks the first visit by a Ghanaian president since the Korea-Africa Summit held in May 2024.

During the summit, the two leaders are expected to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation across a wide range of areas, including trade and investment, maritime security and the protection of nationals overseas, the defense industry, climate change response and other areas, presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said in a written briefing.

Ghana is regarded as one of Africa's leading democracies and serves as a trade and logistics hub in West Africa, hosting the secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area launched in 2021.
