PM calls for practical projects for struggling youths
SEOUL, April 28 (Yonhap) -- The government should come up with practical projects for youths, Prime Minister Kim Min-seok said Tuesday, noting that young adults appear to be feeling less affected by government policy than other categories of policy recipients.
"In a situation where the difficulties of people's livelihoods are getting larger due to the prolonged Mideast war, the current crisis is coming as a bigger shock for youths," Kim said during a youth policy coordination meeting involving related Cabinet ministers.
"We have various youth policies, but complaints have been raised that they could not actually be felt. We should dig up projects that are realistic and can be felt," he said, instructing government ministries and agencies to make sure policies lead to specific projects.
Tuesday's meeting discussed plans to carry out this year's youth policy and support measures for youths who have grown out of orphanage facilities. This year's budget for youth policy was set at about 30 trillion won (US$20.4 trillion) for projects in five areas, including job creation, education and housing support.
