Green tides on Soyang Lake
Work to remove green algae is under way on the uppermost stream of Soyang Lake in Inje, about 126 kilometers northeast of Seoul, a major water resource for Seoul and its neighboring areas, on Aug. 2, 2023. The green tides are believed to have bloomed due to the inflow of contaminants into the lake from days of torrential rain, coupled with a heat wave. The phenomenon was observed for the first time since a dam was built there in 1973. (Yonhap)
