SEOUL -- Hundreds of injured Russian soldiers have undergone treatment at medical facilities in North Korea amid Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine, a Russian news outlet reported Thursday, citing a senior Russian diplomat.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko made the remarks at the North Korean Embassy in Russia on Wednesday during a ceremony marking the 76th anniversary of a treaty on economic and cultural cooperation between the Soviet Union and North Korea, according to Russia's TASS news agency.

(LEAD) S. Korea, U.S. wrap up key joint military exercise against N.K. threats

SEOUL -- South Korea and the United States wrapped up a major annual combined military exercise aimed at bolstering their defense capabilities against North Korean military threats Thursday, the South's military said.

The computer-simulated Freedom Shield exercise drew to an end after an 11-day run in the face of North Korea's evolving nuclear and missile threats and deepening military cooperation with Russia.

S. Korea, Malaysia agree to continue efforts for complete denuclearization of N. Korea

SEOUL -- South Korean and Malaysian defense officials agreed Wednesday to continue efforts for the complete denuclearization of North Korea during regular bilateral talks in Seoul, the defense ministry said.

Lee Seung-beom, the ministry's director general for international policy, and Mohd Yani bin Daud, the Malaysian defense ministry's deputy secretary general for policy, made the pledge as they met to discuss defense cooperation and the regional security situation.
