Patriots ministry buys ex-YKA headquarters in U.S.
This photo, provided by the patriots and veterans affairs ministry, shows a group photo of participants at the 24th annual meeting of the Young Korean Academy (YKA), or Heungsadan, on Dec. 26, 1937. Ahn Chang-ho, a Korean independence fighter, established the academy in San Francisco in May 1913 to nurture young Korean leaders against the 1910-45 Japanese rule of Korea. The YKA headquarters later moved to Los Angeles and is now located in Seoul. On Feb. 2, 2023, the ministry said it had signed a contract on Jan. 31 to purchase the former YKA building in Los Angeles, which was facing demolition under a real estate redevelopment plan, for preservation purposes.
