LIG D&A establishes U.S. subsidiary to expand defense business, partnerships

SEOUL, April 8 (Yonhap) -- LIG Defense & Aerospace (D&A) Co., a South Korean precision-guided missiles and weapons manufacturer, said Wednesday it has opened an overseas subsidiary in the United States to expand its presence in the world's largest defense market.

According to the company, the newly established LIG Defense U.S. Inc. will serve as the company's base for strengthening American partnerships, promoting technology cooperation and entry into the local defense industry.

In particular, the subsidiary will lead a wide range of activities aimed at enhancing cooperation with the U.S. Navy.

The company has appointed Rich Brown, retired vice admiral of the U.S. Navy, as a senior adviser to support partnership building and business development.

It marks the launch of LIG D&A's first overseas subsidiary following the opening of sales offices in Europe, Colombia, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Malaysia.

"The establishment of the subsidiary reflects the company's commitment to becoming a true partner in the U.S. defense industry, said LIG D&A Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shin Ick-hyun. "We will work to serve as a bridge for defense cooperation between South Korea and the U.S."
