SEOUL, Nov. 29 (Yonhap) -- Actor Jung Woo-sung, 51, publicly addressed recent controversy surrounding his extramarital child with model Moon Gabi, 35, during the 45th Blue Dragon Film Awards held at KBS Hall in Yeouido, Seoul, on Friday.

This marks the first time Jung has spoken directly about the issue.

Appearing as a presenter for the Most Viewers Award alongside actor Hwang Jung-min, Jung delivered an emotional statement after presenting the trophy to director Kim Sung-soo and producer Kim Won-guk for "12.12: The Day," in which he starred.

In a solemn tone, Jung said, "First, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who watched '12.12: The Day.' I stand here today with a sincere hope that my personal issues do not leave a blemish on the film and the efforts of everyone who worked on it."

He continued, "I deeply apologize for causing concern and disappointment to those who have shown me love and trust. I will accept and carry all the criticism directed at me. As a father, I will fulfill my responsibilities to my son to the very end."

Jung was thrust into the spotlight on Nov. 24 when it was revealed that he is the father of a son recently born to Moon Gabi. The disclosure sparked widespread debate, accompanied by a wave of unverified claims and leaked photos surrounding his private life.

Speculation about whether Jung would address the controversy at the awards ceremony had been mounting, particularly as he was nominated for Best Actor for his portrayal of a principled military officer opposing the powerful security commander Jeon Du-gwang (played by Hwang Jung-min) in "12.12: The Day."

Despite the personal turmoil, Jung's public apology has drawn both support and scrutiny, with many awaiting further developments in the actor's efforts to navigate the challenges ahead.
