SEOUL, July 29 (Yonhap) -- The National Intangible Heritage Center and the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation announced on Thursday that 16 events regarding Korea's intangible cultural heritages will be held across the country next month.
In Seocheon County, South Chungcheong Province, Bang Yeon-ok, the owner of Weaving Skill of Mosi(ramie cloth) in the Hansan region, will hold an open event from August 6-8, while a sword dance performance, known as "Jinju Geommu" in Korean, will be held at the Jinju Traditional Art Center in South Gyeongsang Province on August 10.
The performance of wind and percussion instruments as well "Daechwita," which refers to a large performance to announce the appearance of the King, will be held at the National Gugak Center in Seoul on August 17. In addition, the master artisan of musical instrument-making holders Go Heung-gon, Kim Hyun-gon and Lee Jeong-ki will present the joint event on August 26-29.
Kim Gak-han who is a "Gakjajang," which means an artisan with skills of engraving calligraphic letters on wood blocks, will hold an event in Seocho-gu from August 26-28, and Lee Chun-hee, will perform on the Pungryu stage at the Folk Theater in Gangnam on August 31.
In Incheon, rituals such as "Baeyeonsingut" and "Daedonggut" that are performed to pray for the safety of boats and happiness of the villagers, will be held from August 4-5, and in Gyeonggi-do, Lim Seok-hwan, artisan of "Bulhwajang" or art of Buddhist painting, Lee Geun-bok, artisan of "Bunwajang," also known as tile makers, and Kim Soo-young, a "Yugijang" or an artisan with brassware making skills, will also hold an open event.
In addition, a ceremony will be held to showcase "Chaesangjang," the skill of weaving a basket with bamboo skin, "Yeomsaekjang," a craftsman who dyes cloth with natural pigments, a mask performance called "Yaryu," and "Gagok," which are Korean traditional songs.
In order to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus, entertainment events will be performed with no audience members or the minimum amount of participants.
