Webtoon 'Debut or Die' attracts over 3 million viewers in one day

SEOUL, August 5 (Yonhap) --Webtoon version of popular South Korean web novel “Debut of Die” exceeded over 3 million views within one day of its premier, announced Kakao Entertainment on Friday.

First episode of “Debut or Die” was uploaded on August 1, and including three of the free released version total of 11 episodes are uploaded.

According to Kakao Entertainment exponential growth in view counts presented by “Debut or Die” which already exceeded 3 million views are very rare occasions, in times where paid contents are taking up majority of the parts in recently released webtoons.

Number of people who are revisiting the novel due to the webtoon has increased as well. The view count of the web novel additional 20 million hits since the upload of the webtoon series. The total view count for the web novel is over 230 million.

“Debut or Die” is a story about a protagonist who finds out about the fact that he might die if he doesn’t debut in a year. Therefore he applies to Idol survival program where he gets thrown with challenges constantly.

After the original Novel attracted a lot of readers, protagonist was awarded with its own fandom, these fans seems to be one of the reasons why the webtoon version is going through a rapid success.

Hwang Hyun-soo the representative of the story department of Kakao Entertainment described the current situation by stating “Webtoon version of ’Debut or Die’ followed by the web novel’s success showcases how great the synergy between both super fans and super intellectual property is.”
