SEOUL, Feb. 8 (Yonhap) -- The Gariwangsan Cable Car of Jeongseon-gun in the province of Gangwon-do, South Korea, has been designated as the “2023 Gangwon-do’s Small and Strong Potential Tourist Destination” organized by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), the province announced Wednesday.

The county of Jeongseon will now receive 150 million won as an incentive. Moreover, the KTO will sign a business agreement with the county and provide assistance in various forms, ranging from big data analysis consulting, infrastructure improvement, and development of tourism products linked to domestic and foreign travel agencies, along with online and offline marketing plans.

Gariwangsan Cable Car is a gondola facility situated in the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics’ Alpine Stadium. Jeongseon-gun has been operating these cable cars since Jan. 3 this year to leave the gondola facility as an Olympic heritage and to offer means by which tourists can be immersed in the charms of the Gariwangsan Mountain.

Those who ride on the cable car will be able to get to the top of the mountain, which is 1,381m above sea level, in just 20 minutes. So far, 15,800 people have used the facility to reach the summit.

The Gariwangsan Cable Car is operated from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Tuesday to Friday, and boarding is available until 4 p.m.
