SEOUL, October 3 (Yonhap) -- Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, announced on Monday that it will hold the Silver Grass Festival at Hwangmaesan Mountain, a representative silver grass colony in Korea.
Hwangmaesan Mountain is popular for its royal azalea and silver grass, and they have opened a royal azalea festival every spring to show off the pink royal azalea. However, this is the first silver grass festival being held.
The festival will start on October 15 and end on October 30.
The festival was prepared as part of the "Creation of Hapcheon," a four-season tourism city', which Hapcheon County Governor Kim Yun-cheol has been emphasizing since his candidacy.
Hwangmaesan Silver Grass boasts its silvery appearance in an area of 1 million square meters starting in mid-October to early November.
Mostly, when a wind blows on the top of the mountain during the period of time, the whole mountain turns silver and the visitors taking a walk show applause. The beautiful scene was the setting for several movies, dramas, and documentaries.
An official from Hapcheon-gun said that there are uncountable tourists asking about the silver grass, including its flowering period.
During the festival period, carts are also operated for the mobility-impaired.
Hwangmaesan Mountain is a representative tourist attraction in the county, with 200,000 tourists each during the flowering period of azaleas and silver grass.
