SEOUL, July 17 (Yonhap) -- The "2022 Cheongju Cultural Heritage Night Trip," where one can visit Cheongju's cultural assets and enjoy performances on a midsummer night will be held from August 27 till August 28 at Yongdusajicheoldanggan (Iron Flagpole at Yongdu Buddhist Temple Site), Cheongju Central Park and Seongan-gil (literally 'road inside the fortress').

This year's theme is "Sailing in the Moonlight, Towards Hope."

This year, the "8 Nights" program was prepared under four themes, namely "The Great Voyage,""'Forest of Victory," "Light of Officials," and "Street of Hope."

"Eight Nights" include "Night View," "Night Snow," "Night Flower," "Night Food," "Night City" and many more.

In order for citizens to enjoy the night scenery of the city center, colorful lights will be installed at Yongdusa Temple Station, Cheongju Central Park, and the Cheongju City Hall.

On August 27, performance programs such as "Towards Hope" and "Moonlight Journey" will be held.

On August 27 and 28, "Protect Juseong!," a performance to commemorate the recapture of Cheongjueupseong Fortress during the Japanese Invasion, and "Juseong's heroes," which portrays the late teacher Kim Tae-hee, who conducted a fundraising campaign to protect the Mangseollu Pavilion in danger of being brought down during the Japanese colonial period, will be held.

With Cheongjueupseong Fortress resembling a ship, it has been called Juseong since the Goryeo Dynasty.

On both of the days, under the moonlight twice a day, a historical tour of Mangseollu Pavilion and Cheongjueupseong Fortress along with a commentator will be held.

To revitalize the stagnant downtown commercial district, an event was also organized to give souvenirs to those visiting Seomun Market, or shops around Namju-dong and Nammun-ro.

"We have prepared a variety of programs to tell the story of Cheongju's ancestors with a long history of 1,500 years who have wisely overcome disasters, while also providing comfort to citizens who have had a hard time due to COVID-19," said an official from the Cheongju Cultural Industry Promotion Foundation.

The Cheongju Cultural Heritage Night Tour has been held every year since 2016.

In 2020, it was held online due to COVID-19.
