SEOUL, Jan. 19 (Yonhap) – South Korean drama film “Next Sohee,” starring Kim Si-eun and Bae Doona, wins the best film in Roberto Rossellini Awards at the 6th Pingyao Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon International Film Festival (PYIFF) held on Jan. 14.
The Roberto Rossellini Awards are each given to both best film and best director, in honor of a renowned Italian neorealist drama director Rossellini. The award-winning film also receives 20,000 dollars (about 24 million won) as prize money.
“It is beyond my expectations to be winning this Award given in the name of Roberto Rossellini, a director I have admired since I was very young,” said Director Jung Ju-ri of “Next Sohee” during her acceptance speech. “I will give this honor to the two actors: Kim Si-eun, who became the genuine personification of Sohee, and Bae Doona, who is my best colleague.”
The PYIFF is a festival that has been held annually since 2017, in Pingyao, an ancient city located in Shanxi Province, China. The 2022 South Korean film “Next Sohee” revolves around a high school student, Sohee, who starts her job training at a customer service center, and detective Yujin – played by Bae Doona – who desperately pursues the truth of the student’s tragic accident.
