SEOUL, Nov. 14 (Yonhap) -- President Yoon Suk-yeol emphasized on Thursday the need for collaborative innovation among businesses, researchers, and academia to achieve a technological edge.
His remarks, read by Wang Yoon-jong, the Third Deputy Director of the National Security Office, were part of a congratulatory message at the 1st "Yonhap News Future Economic Forum," organized by Yonhap News Agency.
The President commented, “With the U.S. election last week concluding a 'super election year,' global dynamics are shifting in tandem with industry and technology transformations, particularly in AI and digital sectors, increasing the uncertainties facing our companies.”
He noted that the ability to overcome these uncertainties and excel in the fiercely competitive advanced industries depends heavily on technological prowess, underscoring South Korea’s historical resilience through relentless innovation.

He further stressed the importance of technology and ideas in the upcoming era of advanced tech competition, pledging the government’s support in funding world-class technology development and building a foundation to transform corporate innovation into industrial competitiveness.
Focusing specifically on the semiconductor sector, President Yoon vowed proactive support to secure a dominant lead in this critical area, including backing the creation of the world’s largest semiconductor mega-cluster and executing a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem support plan worth 26 trillion won. Additionally, he outlined a strategy to advance South Korea into the top three AI powerhouses globally, including expanding national AI infrastructure, boosting private investment, accelerating national AI transformation, and enhancing AI safety and security.
“My administration will actively support high-tech companies to continuously grow based on overwhelming technological competitiveness,” he said.
The forum, held at Lotte Hotel in Seoul's Jung District, centered on “Post-U.S. Election: Intensifying Hegemonic Competition” and was attended by Wang Yoon-jong, Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy Park Sung-taek, and approximately 400 participants.
