SEOUL, Sept.21 (Yonhap) -- Pianist Lim Dong-hyek will hold concert at Seoul Arts Center on Oct. 23 to commemorate his 20th debut anniversary, its agency Credia announced on Wednesday.
Lim will perform Rachmaninoff's piano concerto no.2 with Ditto Orchestra led by Lee Byeong-wook at the speical concert "Lim Dong-hyek, Mun Taeguk MEET Ditto Orchestra," which will be taking place at Seoul Arts Center concert hall.
Rachmaninoff's piano concerto no.2, listed on his first concerto released by Winner Classic in 2018, shows musical background of the pianist, who studied abroad at Moscow P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Lim Dong-hyek has previous performed Rachmaninoff's Piano Sonata at his 10th debut anniversary recital.
Cellist Moon Taeguk will also perform E.Elgar's Cello Concerto at the concert. Two musicians are friends who interact musically, and Moon Taeguk was on the stage with Lim Dong-hyek last year as well.
Lim Dong-yek has released total of 6 albums over the last 20 years, since his debut album EMI Label in June, 2002. It is also his 20th anniversary to hold solo recital concert in S.Korea.
Lim Dong-hyuk,known as a genius since childhood, has made great achievements winning prizes at all three biggest piano competitions, 3rd prize in the Queen Elizabeth Competition in 2003, the first Korean to win a prize in the Chopin International Piano Competition in 2005 (his older brother Lim Dongmin 3rd prize), and 4th prize in the 2007 Tchaikovsky International Competition. He has refused to take the prize at the Queen Elizabeth Competition saying it was "biased judgment".
Lee Dong-huk, during a 20th debut anniversary press conference in last March, said, "If my goal was to win at competitions before, now I dream of becoming a better musician," adding, "I want to be a musician who plays deep and touching music."
