SEOUL, March 20 (Yonhap) -- Actor Lee Joon-gi has denied allegations that he deliberately omitted taxes, following the state agency's tax imposition worth hundreds of millions of won after a tax audit.

his agency, Namoo Actors, released an official statement on Thursday, explaining that the additional income tax imposed was due to "differences in interpretation and application of tax laws between the tax authorities and tax representatives" rather than intentional tax evasion or underreporting.

The agency further stated that aside from differences in perspectives regarding the application of corporate and income taxes, there were no findings of tax evasion or deliberate omission related to Lee Joon-gi. It also emphasized that the income tax issue had never been pointed out during previous regular tax audits in 2015 and 2019.

In response, the agency has filed an appeal with the Tax Tribunal to seek a review of the decision, and the case is currently under deliberation.

Lee Joon-gi recently underwent a tax audit by the Gangnam Tax Office, during which he was reportedly notified of an additional tax imposition of approximately 900 million won.
