SEOUL, Sept. 15 (Yonhap) -- Taebaek couple festival will be held in four years at 'Descendants of the Sun' park located in Taebaek city, Gangwon province.
Taebaek couple festival will be held for 2 days, Sept. 17-18, and will host concert along with various events for couples such as remind wedding photos, holding each other, and eating pepero.
The festival venue, 'Descendants of the Sun park' was created in May 2017 by Taebaek City restoring the set of KBS drama "Descendants of the Sun."
Taebaek City held the Taebaek Couple Festival for three days from May 26-27 in 2017 to commemorate the opening of the park.
The first Taebaek Couple Festival drew a lot of attention, attracting more than 17,000 tourists.
The second Taebaek Couple Festival, held on July 7-8, 2018, was also crowded with nearly 9,000 people.
But preparing for the third festival in June 2019, news that "Songsong Couple," leading actors of the descendants of the Sun Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo, separated broke out.
Althought the festival was amost abolished at the time, It was decided to continue.
So the thrid festival, which was scheduled to be held that summer, was canceled.
At that time, Taebaek City even considered abolishing the Taebaek Couple Festival, but did not.
Third Taebaek Couple Festival, scheduled to be held in the summer of 2020, also did not take place due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Lee Jong-nam, chairman of the Taebaek Couple Festival, said on Thursday, "The 1st and 2nd festivals were organized by Taebaek City, but the 3rd festival is by residents," adding, "As it is a festival to gather residents and revitalize the local economy, anyone, including lovers, family, and friends, can enjoy."
