SEOUL, Oct. 4 (Yonhap) -- The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism announced on the 4th that the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, designated as one of Korea's '2024–2026 Global Representative Festivals,' will be held over three days until the 6th at various locations around Suwon Hwaseong.
This year, with its new status as a global festival, the event will feature multilingual performances and hands-on programs designed to help foreign tourists experience traditional Korean culture more easily.
Among the new programs for international visitors are the changgeuk (Korean traditional opera) Jagung-Gagyo, which will include English subtitles on a screen, the non-verbal media performance Hwaryeong, and Jeongjo's Dasoban, a royal tea ceremony experience.
In addition, the ministry plans to host an international showcase of global festivals at Taiwan's International Travel Expo early next month.
Earlier in March, the ministry selected the Incheon Pentaport Music Festival (performing arts), Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival (traditional culture), and Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival (tourism resources) as global festivals, pledging 2.5 billion won in national funding over three years to promote them as key tourism products.
