SEOUL, Apr. 13 (Yonhap) -- Seoul City announced on the 13th that Namsangol Hanok Village (near Chungmuro station), a place with the Korean tradition in the middle of a city is opening the jeontong gaog (traditional house of Korea) at night from the 16th.
For two years, it has been operated only from 9 a.m. till 6 p.m. due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the door to the jeontong gaog in the Namsangol Hanok Village will be widely open from 9 a.m. till 9 p.m.
According to the city, the Namsan area, which was called "Namchon" during the Joseon Dynasty, boasted a scenery so beautiful that it was also known as the place Sin-sun (Taoist hermit with miraculous powers or being immortal) used to live. As much as the jeontong gaogs (Seoul Folklore Cultural Property No.8, etc) were owned by 5 different people with different status and positions during the late Joseon Dynasty, it all has different structures.
"For citizens who are tired and depressed due to the long-lasting pandemic, a walk in the quiet Hanok (traditional houses) under the moonlight during the spring of April will offer them some peace in their daily lives" said Seoul city. "From the plum blossoms which tells the start of the spring and the Prunus Mume-Blossoms blooming around Namsan, it surely will be a healing place in the middle of the city where people will be able to feel the spring."
From May 6th to July 8th, a small "Hanok Concert" with performances including fusion traditional music, folk pop and jazz will be held every Friday evening in a traditional house lit with lanterns.
