SEOUL, June 6 (Yonhap) -- BTS, a group that has written a new history of K-pop, will return, establishing itself as a "global pop star" in the worldwide music industry.
BTS will release the anthology album “Proof” which embodies the history of the group for nine years on June 10th at 1 p.m. in Korea and at midnight in Eastern Standard Time, according to the music industry on Monday.
It is the first time in about 11 months that BTS releases a physical album, a CD type album, since the release of a single CD including “Butter” and “Permission to Dance” in July of last year.
This album tells the story of BTS's past, present, and future as it enters its 10th year of debut.
The album, which consists of a total of three CDs, will contain a total of 48 songs, including three new songs, "Yet To Come," "Run BTS" and "For Youth."
Members RM, Suga, and J-Hope participated in the title track "Yet To Come."
Big Hit Music, the agency, explained about the new album, “‘Proof’ is an album designed to reflect on its activities and its meaning now that BTS, which marks its ninth anniversary this year, is opening a new chapter as an artist in its 10th year."
BTS will also appear in the Korean music show for the first time in 2 years in line with the new album release.
Starting with Mnet’s “M Countdown” on June 16th, BTS will appear in KBS 2TV’s “Music Bank” on the 17th, and SBS’s “Inkigayo” on the 19th.
Inside and outside the music industry, attention is being paid to what records BTS will set through this album.
In the case of "Butter" released last year, it topped the U.S. Billboard's main singles chart "Hot 100" for 10 weeks and was counted as the most downloaded song of last year in the U.S.
The single album with the song also sold more than 1.97 million copies within a week of its release, setting the record for the first week of sales (initial) among the albums released last year.
Considering BTS' global fandom, this is why there are expectations that the group will be able to aim for the top of the Billboard Hot 100 as well as the main album chart Billboard 200 with its new album and the new song "Yet to Come."
To show this atmosphere, online music sites are also moving quickly to coincide with the BTS comeback.
Melon, South Korea’s No. 1 music site, has been presenting content where BTS members look back and talk about the last album through the "Melon Station" section since last month. On the 10th, the members will introduce their new album themselves.
Apple Music is sequentially releasing radio shows about BTS' journey to K-pop stardom, and Spotify is conducting a #SpotifyPurpleU campaign to celebrate their comeback.
Jung Min-jae, a pop music critic, said, "Not everyone can release the anthology album itself," adding, "BTS's new album seems to be a project that was inspired by the anthology album released by the British band The Beatles in the mid-1990s."
"Unlike the existing compilation album (edited album), this album will be like a 'gift' for fans as it contains hits, unreleased versions, and temporary recordings (demo) songs," critic Jung predicted.
However, some fans are suggesting that they will boycott the album by taking issue with certain tracks.
Earlier, when it was revealed that the song "Filter," which includes Bobby Chung of the Autumn Vacation duo, was included in the album, fans pointed out that the group should have been careful in selecting the song as the singer was on trial for illegal filming.
