Cultural Heritage Administration to build 1 mln digital cultural heritage data

SEOUL, Dec. 17 (Yonhap) -- The Cultural Heritage Administration announced Saturday that it will build about 1 million digital cultural heritage data and unveil them sequentially.

Next year, the Cultural Heritage Administration will collect 180,000 pieces of data on humanities convergence research, 2,300 three-dimensional restoration and reproduction data, and 600,000 photos, drawings, videos, and documents on cultural properties that are owned by individuals and institutions.

By 2025, 200,000 three-dimensional data will be built on the will be built on the "Integrated Database of Cultural Heritage Circular Records (DB)" that records 4,000 state-designated and registered cultural properties with precise digital technology.

The cultural administration plans to operate a separate online platform while continue discovering data so that the digital cultural heritage data can be used for games, movies, and webtoons.

Last month, the Cultural Heritage Administration established a 'Digital Cultural Heritage' team, a dedicated organization to promote the development and promotion of digital cultural heritage.

"We will create a revised bill for the Cultural Heritage Protection Act that includes the promotion and use of digital cultural heritage collection, as well as push for the construction of a National Digital Heritage Center in Sejong City," an official from the Cultural Heritage Administration said.
