Amorepacific Museum of Art opens special exhibition ‘Beyond Folding Screens 2’

SEOUL, Jan. 26 (Yonhap) – The Amorepacific Museum of Art (APMA) will hold a special exhibition of ancient arts from the Joseon period, titled “Beyond Folding Screens 2,” until Apr. 30, the Museum announced Thursday.

The folding screens from diverse time periods ranging from the Joseon Dynasty to the modern period will be displayed; about 50 works owned by 15 institutions and individuals will be collected and presented in two different sections: private folding screens and royal folding screens.

The ancient folding screens, collected and exclusively exhibited at the APMA, will be unveiled, including Chae Yong-shin’s “Jangsaengdo 10-Fold Screen,” Lee Sang-beom’s “Gyuiro 10-Fold Screen,” and “Gojong Im Injinyeon 8-Fold Screen.” All those that have not yet been displayed in public.

The “Pyongyang Seongdo 8-Fold Screen” (Songam Museum of Art) that has been designated as a cultural heritage, along with Busan’s tangible cultural heritage titled “Gonyeojeon 8-Fold Screen” (Busan Museum) and “Iminjinyeon 10-Fold Screen” (National Gugak Center), Seoul’s tangible cultural heritage, will also be on display.

The APMA, along with 26 art history experts, also produced several booklets carefully elaborating on the overall contents of the exhibited folding screens.

The exhibition opens from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, except for Mondays.
