SEOUL, July 6 (Yonhap) -- “I thought ‘This is it!’ I have to act. No matter what happens, I must do it unitl the end.”

Entertainer Justin Havey became an actor. Born in South Africa, he first appeared in the Korean variety show “Hey! First Time in KOREA?” Then he played a role as a secret agent Tom in the movie “The Witch: Part 2,” which was released last month.

“I was happy to be able to bring the character into life through my imagination” Justin Harvey, who met with Yonhap News on Tuesday, said without being able to hide his excited look.

Debuting as an actor through “The Witch: Part 2,” he is praised for playing out the role of “Scene Thriller” very well. “I was worried as this was my first work and the the role was big. But I was relieved to receive good feedbacks” said Justin Havery, adding “It made me want to do better.”

Tom, the role Justin Harvey played, is a subordinate of Jo-hyun(Seo Eun-soo) who chases after a girl(Shin Si-ah). Protecting Jo-hyun is a top priority for Tom at any situations.

“Tom is a character who can use his body, has a unique style, and take a good care of his surroundings. He is also very loyal. I thought those kinds of characteristics were similar to mine. But I am more of a guy with a leadership rather than just taking orders from the boss.”

Tom’s charm comes from his comicality and seriousness. He takes a swipe at Jo-hyun calling him “Yok-jaeng-ee”(bad mouther) with his poor Korean, and even when a serious conversation is going on in the back, he is busy eating snacks. However, when he is fighting, he easily catches a car door with one hand, showing his “unexpected charms” by risking his life for Jo-hyun.

“I acted Tom thinking that he has a painful past,” said Justin Harvey.

“That is why I thought he did not like dark situations. So whenever situation turns bad, he makes jokes. I thought Jo-hyun and Tom have pasts similar to those of Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).”

He chose “Pretending to be bad at Korean” as the most difficult part of acting.

“The director once told me that I speak Korean ‘too naturally’ and told me to be more like a ‘foreigner.’ So I kept telling myself, ‘I am a foreigner who speaks poor Korean’.”

Justin Harvey, who says “I love acting,” hopes to play variety of roles from the main actor of romance genre to psychopath.

“Like Ali from ‘Squid Game’, I want to play a role of foreigner who speaks Korean fluently. But for now, I want to play any roles. The busier the happier.”
