SEOUL, May 12 (Yonhap) -- Amorepacific said Tuesday that a next-generation nano cosmetic delivery technology jointly developed with Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology was selected as a cover paper for the May issue of the international nanoscience journal “ACS Nano.”

The joint research team succeeded in developing a lipid-based delivery system measuring about 20 nanometers while maintaining structural stability to improve the skin absorption of cosmetic ingredients.

Cosmetic delivery systems generally become more effective as they get smaller, but maintaining structural stability has remained a challenge. Ultra-small carriers below 50 nanometers are particularly vulnerable to changes in temperature and pH levels.

Amorepacific’s R&I Center said it focused on triterpenoids, plant-derived compounds found to strengthen molecular bonding and stabilize the delivery structure.

Human skin tests showed the new technology improved the even distribution of active ingredients into deeper layers of the skin compared with conventional delivery systems, the company said.

Amorepacific has named the technology “Lipo3Ex” and is currently applying it to products under its IOPE and Primera brands.

Seo Byung-hwi, chief technology officer at Amorepacific’s R&I Center, said the research demonstrated new technological possibilities by combining delivery technology, a key factor in skincare efficacy, with nanoscience research.
