Russia-occupied region in Ukraine seeks cooperation with N. Korea
SEOUL, April 16 (Yonhap) -- Officials from a Russia-occupied region in Ukraine have held talks with the North Korean ambassador to Russia to discuss ways to seek cooperation in areas including agriculture, the governor of the region has said, in another apparent sign of deepening ties between Pyongyang and Moscow.
Vladimir Saldo, the governor of the Kherson region in Ukraine, disclosed photos that appeared to have been taken at the North Korean Embassy in Moscow recently. Saldo said he held a meeting with the North Korean Ambassador to Russia Sin Hong-chol to discuss possible cooperation, with a focus on agriculture and humanitarian exchange.
Saldo said with North Korea in need of food, their interests align, and that possible areas of cooperation include vegetable oil, flour and processed products.
Saldo said the two sides will seek to expand business contacts on the supply of agricultural products, as well as engage in humanitarian exchange in the areas of culture, sports and education, adding he has invited Sin to visit Kherson for a tour of local farms.
North Korea and Russia have aligned closely in various sectors following the North's deployment of troops to support Russia in its war against Ukraine, which has also led to Russia providing vital military technology and resources to Pyongyang.
